Throughout the 1700s/1800s many people fell badly into debt. Those unable to pay often ended up in gaol. Records were generated at every level and this course looks at the family history information they contain with reference to several famous and not so famous cases from all the social classes.
It examines the causes and remedies and also looks at the way spouses walked out on those in debt, causing many bigamy cases to result.
