At the outbreak of war in 1914 thousands of male civilians, including merchant seamen, with Germanic surnames were interned in camps in Britain. As the war progressed German military prisoners captured in mainland Europe were added to the British camps. Based on Dr Colin Chapman’s book, we will learn about the amazing story of some of the WW1 POW Camps situated in Britain.
