We will cover the basic history of policing but will concentrate from the period after 1829 and Robert Peel`s Government Bill, founding the Metropolitan Police, and thereafter in the 1830`s - 1850`s various bills that enabled all areas of England Wales & Scotland to have organised and uniformed forces. There will be a section of the talk devoted to the Royal Irish Constabulary.  The talk will concentrate where records are held and accessible, understanding the records, where to research for a `Policeman’s Lot` lifestyle, uniforms.  Many Policemen travelled away from their home areas to join forces that were recruiting. Newspapers play a big part and Police Ancestors will always be found therein. We will also try to separate fact from fiction, for example, `Ripper Street` and `Peaky Blinders`

A half-day course with Ken Divall.
