In this course, Helen Dawkins looks at the history of photography, identifying some of the early formats and how photography was used to record our social history. She brings with her actual examples to aid identification. Helen also covers some of the problems occurring with old photographs and gives advice on repairs. In the final session, Helen covers how to care for your collections, from simple photograph albums to archival storage, such as that used by museums and libraries, and gives advice on framing.
Helen Dawkins remains one of the few practitioners in traditional restoration, producing negatives and silver halide, darkroom produced prints.
