For several centuries Bristol was England's second city, its prosperity built on the trans-Atlantic and slave trades. As the metropolis of the West, the city attracted many poor migrants from the rural hinterlands, Wales and Ireland. The size of the city, population mobility and poverty, combined with strong nonconformity and records in three archives, make Bristol research challenging.
In this talk Caroline Gurney shares the sources and strategies she uses as a professional genealogist to find her clients' Bristol ancestors.
