We will enjoy a rare visit to Armourers' Hall, which the Armourers & Brasiers' Company has occupied since 1346. The Hall was one of the very few livery halls to escape destruction in the Great Fire of 1666, which stopped a short distance away.
Peter Bateman, the company clerk, will give us a talk on the history of Livery Companies in general, the Armourers and Brasiers in particular, and the history of armour and its role in medieval warfare. He will also talk about the history of Armourer’s Hall, which is the oldest extant Livery Hall in the City of London (not damaged by the Blitz).
