Sean Patterson’s Deptford walk will, as usual, feature some of Charles Booth’s Poverty maps notes that provide a window on the area from 120 years ago. Now the area is rapidly changing, with gentrification happening in new builds, although the High Street retains its older world charm. We start at the new market space created round one of the world’s very first railway stations. Along the way we encounter Peter The Great, John Evelyn, Samuel Pepys, Christopher Marlowe and Captain Bligh, finishing back at Deptford Station.
