Free Library Tours & Family History Research Advice

Our Library is full of family history treasures and records, directories and databases. We have more than 150,000 items spread over three floors. Of course, you can just come in and explore, asking the staff and volunteers for help when you need it. But with so much to see, the Society recommends that you take a Library Tour.

They are free to all, last approximately 1½ hours long, and they are on nearly every first and third Saturday at 11.15 am. Book your free place: Library tour dates are listed with our other free events on our website (listed in date order). Please note that if you would like to undertake research in the library after your tour, you will need to purchase a day search ticket from our reception desk for a small fee. More information can be found here.

Thinking of becoming a Member? Our Library Tours are open to all. However, if you join us before the Tour, access to everything in the Library is free of charge, including the Society's digitised material – SoG Data Online - which is also available online from home for Members.Find out more about our Membership

Want to come with a group? We'd love to have you. For details on how to arrange a group visit and tour, see Group Visits.

We also run free advice sessions on alternate Saturdays (same as tour dates). To find out more, visit the advice section of our website.  Non-Members are welcome!
