Researching Brewery & Publican Ancestors - A One-hour Lecture on 13 July
Until fairly recently the public house in its various guises was a centre of the community and innkeepers were often respected figures locally. In addition most towns and villages had a brewery or two providing beer to slake the throats of everybody from princes to paupers. This lecture will discuss the major sources you will need to use if you have a publican or brewer on your family tree. We will also look at the changing nature of the tavern from the simple beer house to gaudy gin palace. Unfortunately, there will be no free samples!
A one-hour lecture on Wednesday, 13 July at 2pm with Simon Fowler. Cost £8.00/£6.40 SoG members. Places should be pre-booked through our website or by telephone: 020 7553 3290. Do you have a question? email the events department.
