ST ANDREW, HOLBORN MARRIAGE RECORDS DATA CAPTURE PROGRAM (Notes prepared by David Squire 14 August 2004) BACKGROUND These instructions are for loading the program Andrew v1.3 dated 14 August 2004 from CD. UPGRADING FROM VERSION 1.1 OR 1.2 versions If you are upgading from an earlier version please uninstall this first before installing version 1.3 The same applies if you are dealing with a dualdate bug that appeared in the April 2004 version of Andrew 1.3. SUMMARY INSTRUCTIONS Run setup.exe from the Andrew v1.3 CD and follow on screen instructions. When the program is loaded configure your desktop with a suitable shortcut using the "register" icon provided. DETTAILED INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING PROGRAM (1) Close all other Windows programs. (2) Put Andrew v1.3 CD in your CD drive. (3) Run setup.exe from whatever drive letter your CD drive is. (4) Ignore the plea to read the "End User Licence Agreement". I have not written one. This program is licenced free of charge to all volunteers whilst they are working on the St Andrew, Holborn data capture project on the conditions that (a) they acknowledge that all data so collected is copyright of the Society of Genealogists and (b) they do not copy, sell, lend or otherwise provide this program to anyone who is not a volunteer on this project or use it for anything other than the project. (5) Click on "Continue". (6) Complete your name if so prompted and proceed. (7) Chose the destination folder that you would like to store the program in. The default is C:\program files\sah but you can change to something else if you prefer by clicking on "Change folder". (8) Proceed when you are happy with the folder you have chosen. (9) When you get the instruction "To start installation, click large button", the large button referred to is the computer icon on the screen. (10) The installation process should now proceed smoothly and at the end you should get the message "The setup was completed successfully". (11) You can now run Andrew from the folder that you installed it in. DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING ICON ON YOUR DESKTOP The following steps are not mandatory but for most people they will greatly simplify the process of launching the application quickly each time you wish to use it. (12) Add the program to your desktop by right clicking whilst the mouse is over the desktop. (13) Select "New shortcut". (14) Browse to the folder that you installed Andrew into. (15) Select Andrew13.exe. (16) Click OK. (17) Chose name. I suggest "Andrew v1.3" or "St Andrew Holborn". (18) You should now see an icon of an old register. If you do not like what is shown you can, of course, change it using normal Windows procedures. Now all you have to do to launch the program is to double click on the icon anytime that you want to work on inputting data. NOTE ON DATA FILES Note that your data files will automatically be stored in the same folder that you installed the program into. FURTHER HELP Enjoy your inputting. Remember that once you have installed Andrew you can get comprehensive help by pressing the F1 key at any time. CHANGES FROM VERSION 1.2 Version 1.3 has been produced in order to enable more of the text boxes in the data input screen to be disabled ("greyed out") in order to speed up inputting with the earlier marriage records which do bo contain as much information as the later ones. Typically the witness names and the name of the officiating minister, the current status of the parties (widower, spinster etc) and their signatures are absent from the earlier marriage records. Version 1.3 assumes this at start up but, by using the Tools / Display option it is easy to reinstate those fields if necessary. Version 1.3 still allows all fields to be edited if desired. CHANGES FROM VERSION 1.1 Version 1.2 contained certain improvements requested by users. These are also incorporated into version 1.3.
