This page brings together sites that are related one way or another to the Vicar-General Marriage Licence Index. Many of them will have been mentioned already somewhere on the site but a few are not. It was felt that it would be convenient to bring them all together here and provide some short explanations about them. Society of Genealogists
This leading English genealogical society is based in London. It sponsored this index and members of the society were responsible for organising and preparing the index on a voluntary basis.
SoG Publications
Many genealogical books, guides, microfiche and other publications can be purchased easily over the web from this excellent genealogical bookshop. The publications include the Vicar-General Marriage Licence Indexes in both book and microfiche formats.
Faculty Office Marriage Licence Index
Having completed the Vicar-General Marriage Licence Index the organising team moved on to complete similar work on the marriage licences issued by the Master of Faculties of the Archbishop of Canterbury. This index, which includes some 321,000 names spanning the years 1701 to 1850, is being published in microfiche.
Computers in Genealogy
The quarterly journal of the SoG which is devoted to using computers as a tool for genealogical research. This site gives a good idea of the content of current and past issues.
GENUKI
The key site devoted to UK genealogy. It is well structured with good links.
Archbishop of Canterbury
Not a genealogy site but provides background on the Archbishop's role.
Lambeth Palace Library
The original records of the Vicar-General from which this index derives are stored in the Lambeth Palace Library.The preparation of the index was only possible because of their help and generosity.

A simple guide to the organisation of the church in England and Wales
Understanding the English calendar change
Users of this index will see dual dates (eg 26 Feb 1749/50) in the early part of the index. This site explains in some detail the calendar change in 1752 and what "old style" and "new style" dates mean.
Society of Indexers Genealogical Group
A special interest group devoted to genealogical indexing. The group produces a regular newsletter and the contents of past issues as well as some selected articles are reproduced on this site.

The most comprehensive and well organised listing of genealogical sites that I am aware of. When in doubt this is a good place to browse.
LDS Family History Centres
Lists links to sites where LDS Family History Centres can be locationed. This will facilitate ordering microfilm of the allegations underlying this index. However please remember the comments on the page devoted to LDS film numbers in this site before you visit or order film to avoid disappointment.
