Nomination Process

The restructuring and changes to the governance of the Society has continued to work well and the Board of Trustees are working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, June Perrin, to ensure that our joint stewardship is effective, fully collaborative and beneficial for all members, as well as staff and volunteers. The current Board of Trustees has ten voting members. The Business Committee has a maximum of nine voting members. All trustees and committee members are listed on the SoG website, within the Governance section.

We have some important decisions ahead as we plan for the Society’s future and ensure that it continues to provide outstanding services and expertise for all family historians. As you will know, we are facing the challenges of developing our premises and onsite activities, whilst increasing our online presence. There are many opportunities for us within the fast-changing world of genealogy and we are committed to ensuring that the Society of Genealogists remains at the heart of family history in the 21st century.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to extend a warm invitation to anyone who feels that they can contribute to our work, by standing for nomination as a trustee. We are fortunate to have had new trustees join the board over the last couple of years, each one bringing considerable skills and expertise in a range of essential areas. The contribution of all trustees is highly valued and is essential to the effective running of the organisation. We are still actively seeking new trustees and would be particularly interested in individuals with up-to-date knowledge and experience of premises project management and business development.

Applicants are required to complete a key skills questionnaire, which is downloadable from the website by clicking here. It must be submitted to the Chief Executive Officer, with a 250-word CV including a personal statement of how you would contribute to the work of the Board of Trustees. The deadline for submissions is the first Tuesday in April. Applicants will be invited to an informal interview, after which the nomination form would be issued.

If you would like to discuss the roles and responsibilities of trustees, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact June Perrin or myself.

Thank you.
