The Society of Genealogists Library

We're opening our temporary location

We're delighted to be able to welcome members to our temporary premises on Holloway Road on Wednesdays. There are several public transport options to get you here and you can find full details below.

The Society of Genealogists is undergoing a transformation and we're busy setting up a new permanent location in London. As well as visiting our temporary location on Wednesdays, you can still enjoy access to all our online resources.

How to visit us

To visit us, all you need to do is book a place using the link below.

You can book a computer or space to view our library materials, and we ask that you pre-order what you would like to see from our collections in advance. To give us time to get the materials from storage, please book and put in your request at least one week in advance. If you wish to come with less than 7 days' notice, please contact our library team and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Book a place via the membership portal here

Once you've booked your place, you'll receive the library booking form. If you require materials from our collections, please fill it out with details of the author, title, shelf mark, accession number, and offsite storage number, which you can obtain from the library catalogue here.

You can request up to 5 items per visit. Most of the Family Search microfilms which have been digitised can be viewed digitally. To view these, you only need to book use of a computer or bring your own laptop.

What can you do when you visit us?

You can book at any time to use one of our computers and access Find My Past, Ancestry, and Family Search, as well as our digital collections.

If you book 7 days in advance, you can request items from our collections, such as books, periodicals, and archival items.

Due to the digitisation projects underway, some materials may not be available. This includes records of monumental inscriptions and parish registers, but in some cases, we may be able to provide access to digital copies of these. Please do get in touch and let us know if you require these materials, and we'll support you as best we can.

If you have any questions, please contact our library team by email: librarian@sog.org.uk or by calling (020) 7251 8799 and pressing option 4.
