The Society of Genealogists Library

We're opening our temporary location

We are delighted to be re-opening the Library to members, in our temporary office at 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA on 18th May, 2022. As the space is limited, we are only able to accommodate up to eight people at a time, once a week on Wednesdays to begin with, as we test our retrieval services.

The Society of Genealogists is undergoing a transformation and we're busy setting up a new permanent location in London. As well as visiting our temporary location on Wednesdays, you can still enjoy access to all our online resources.

How to visit us

All members will be required to make a booking in advance and to request materials which we'll need to order. As all our materials are currently offsite in storage you will need to pre-order them at least 2 weeks prior to your visit. Unfortunately, records of monumental inscriptions and parish registers will not be immediately available, due to the digitisation projects under way. We shall do our best to provide you with items, however, some records will not initially be available, and we are grateful for your understanding.

Book a place via the membership portal here

To order items, please fill in the library booking form with details of the author, title, shelf mark, accession number and offsite storage number which you can obtain from the library catalogue here.

A maximum of 5 items per visit can be requested on one form. Most of the Family Search microfilms which have been digitised can only be viewed digitally in the Library and you would only need to book use of a computer if not using your own laptop.

We also continue to request that you hold on to any donations for the Library for a little while longer as we finalise systems. You can find full updated guidance on depositing your research with us here.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Library in our temporary office while we await our new home.

If you have any questions please contact our library team by email: or by calling (020) 7251 8799 and pressing option 4.
